• Customs officers under fire
  • 05.05.2010

Police in north-east Poland are looking for someone who tried to burn down a customs officer’s house with a Molotov cocktail.

The incident marks the fourth such attack this year on customs officers in the area, most of whom work at border crossings with Russia. Last year there were ten such attacks.

No-one was hurt in the event, as the culprite missed the window to the kitchen where the customs officer was eating dinner with his wife and children. The resulting fire outside was quickly extinguished.

The customs officer works at the border crossing in Gronowo with a canine unit, used to sniff out narcotics and cigarettes. (jb)
