• Maths back in school leaving exam
  • 05.05.2010

High school pupils in Poland are into the second day of the end of school finals and today tackle the dreaded maths exam.

For the first time in over 25 years, the teenagers are writing the obligatory mathematics exam. As of this year maths has been re-introduced as an obligatory subject, alongside Polish and foreign language exams.

As in the case of other school finals maths is written in two levels, the obligatory standard level and advanced for those who want to apply to technical and science universities.

According to estimates from trial exams, held one month ago, the standard level was considered easy by the pupils: however every fourth pupil did not achieve the minimum 30 percent, required to pass the exam. (ab)
