• Poll shows gender breakdown of presidential ballot
  • 18.05.2010

A poll released today breaks down votes for the presidential candidates by gender, with Civic Platform’s Bronislaw Komorowski commandeering the female vote, while Law and Justice candidate Jaroslaw Kaczynski is backed mainly by male supporters.

54 percent of voters supporting Bronislaw Komorowski are women, with 46 percent of them men. For Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the gender balance is almost 50/50, receiving 51 percent of votes from men, and 49 from women.

The male/female ratio for the Leftist candidate Grzegorz Napieralski is reversed, with 51 and 49 percent female/male support respectively.

While these figures may be balanced, some candidates definitely seem to command greater male support. Such presidential hopefuls include Andrzej Lepper (Self Defence) with 86 percent, and Janusz Korwin-Mikke (Freedom and Legitmacy, formerly of the Union of Real Politics) with as much as 92 percent of the male vote.

Marek Jurek, the Polish Right candidate, appeals to female voters by as much as 90 percent.

The poll was commissioned by TVN24 on 17 May 2010 and was undertaken by Millward Brown SMG/KRC. (jb)
