• Pawlak flaunts his English in latest political spot
  • 28.05.2010

A new PSL party video on YouTube promoting Waldemar Pawlak shows the presidential hopeful speaking English.

“Waldemar Pawlak knows foreign languages and won’t have a problem holding conversations with other world leaders,” the Polish Peasant’s Party video boasts about its candidate.

Cut to a scene in which Pawlak, as economy minister, is holding talks in English, with sentences such as “we can produce electricity from domestic sources” and that he is talking about a “complex approach to the energy perspective.”

Pawlak’s language skills will be the envy of some other candidates. Jaroslaw Kaczynski is known not to speak English. And Bronislaw Komorowski’s lack of English became an issue in the primary elections as Civic Platform’s presidential candidate earlier this year.

Commenting on his rival, Radek Sikorski’s ‘posh’ accent when speaking English, Komorowski said: “I don’t have an Oxford accent but there again, when Sikorksi was in England [in the 1980s] I was in imprisoned by the communists in Warsaw.” (jb/pg)
