  • 30.05.2010

Several hundred people demonstrated in Warsaw in memory of a 36-year-old Nigerian man, who died after being shot by police in a scuffle with traders at a market last Sunday.

The  36-year-old Nigerian father of three had been married to a Polish woman. Demonstrators on Sunday carried banners reading “Max was not aggressive, he didn’t attack officers, so why is he dead” as well as “Stop racism, stop police brutality”.

Two investigations are underway in connection with the shooting, including one on overstepping bounds by police. 33 had been detained in connection with the incident at the market, 25 have been since charged with attacking law enforcement officers. (ek)
