Jaroslaw Kaczynski in Zakopane
Presidential candidate Jaroslaw Kaczynski will be holding a ‘debate’ today in Warsaw, as the twin brother if the late president, Lech Kaczynski, steps up his campaign in the run up to the June 20 ballot.
Other candidates in the presidential election will not be present, however. Kaczynski will answer questions put to him by colleagues from his Law and Justice party, experts and journalists.
A TV debate between Kaczynski, his main rival Bronislaw Komorowski and other candidates has yet to be arranged.
The ‘debate’ today will be held at the Hotel Europejski in the centre of Poland’s capital. The main theme will be the EU and foreign policy.
Kaczynski also wants to meet today with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, who will be in Warsaw. It is not known, however, if politicians from the new centre-right government in Budapest will be at the debate on Monday.
On Saturday, Jaroslaw Kaczynski gave a major campaign speech in Zapopan in the south of Poland. This week he plans to release a election campaign broadcast.
Kaczynski remains some distance behind Bronislaw Komorowski in opinion polls. On Saturday the Homo Homini institute released a poll taken for Polish Radio which showed that Komorowski, the Civic Platform candidate, would receive 47.6 percent of the votes while Kaczynski (Law and Justice) would pick up 32.5 percent.
