Though water levels on the Vistula river are high as a flood wave passes through Warsaw, the situation is under control, say rescue services.
At noon on Tuesday the water in the Vistula River in Warsaw rose 732 cm, 80 cm above the danger levels. Embankments have held firm, however.
City Hall spokesman Tomas Andryszczyk told the PAP news agency that emergency equipment is in place and additional sandbags have been installed at danger spots.
Schools, kindergartens and nurseries in some areas on the east bank of the river have been closed today and tomorrow.
Flooding has affected many areas in the south and central regions of Poland over the last two and a half weeks, with 18 lives lost and billions of zloty worth of damages caused. (pg)
