• Two footballers sentenced for beating policemen

Radoslaw Majdan, former Wisla FC goalkepper and ex-husband of a popular singer Doda, and Piotr Swierczewski, former LKS Lodz FC were found guilty of assaulting a policeman.  

 

The court in the northern city of Koszalin sentenced Piotr Swierczewski to six months in prison and 6,000 zloty (1,470 euro) fine and Radoslaw Majdan to a lighter sentence of 4,500 zloty (1,100 euro) fine. The footballers are going to appeal from the verdict.

 

The Prosecutor also considering an appeal, claiming that the punishment is not severe enough. 

 

Swierczewski and Majdan were accused of assaulting policemen during a fight in Villa Siesta in the coastal town of Mielno in July 2008. Swierczewski was also charged with causing psychological trauma.

 

The court also discontinued the case against former Pogon Szczecin FC footballer Jaroslaw Chwastek, claiming that his involvement in the fight was insignificant. (mg)
