• Kaczynski - ‘Poland most important’
  • 16.06.2010

A nation that is strong, independent and modern without political conflict is Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s main election messages, under the campaign slogan: Poland is the most important

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, campaigning to replace his late twin brother Lech in the Presidential Palace, stresses that as a politician he has always struggled for a strong, independent, honest and modern Poland. He wants to bring an end to the “Polish-Polish political war […] and initiate a common plan for the country,” he says, as part of a more softer, less aggressive image that he has been presenting to the country since the death of his brother in the Smolensk air disaster.

In order to end political conflict the Law and Justice’s candidate is ready to cooperate with “parliament, government and the opposition, with trade unions and associations of employers, as well as organizations which contribute to the country’s wellbeing.” He says he will be a “supportive but also a demanding president” when it comes to relations with the government.

Modernity and tradition

Jaroslaw Kaczynski opts for a “social contract between employers, trade unions and the government concerning the main objectives of the Polish economy and protection of employees’ interests.”

He wants to simplify the procedures for entrepreneurs, improve infrastructure and modernize Polish agriculture. The Law and Justice’s candidate also wants to support Polish culture and public media. He claims that every citizen of Poland in spite of their financial status should have easy and free access to health care. Kaczynski also wants to promote a family and parenthood.

When it comes to foreign affairs Poland should “overcome its inferiority complex and be open to a dialogue with other countries.” Kaczynski also thinks that “it should be Poland’s ambition to join G20. (mg)
