Skeletons of WW II German soldiers have been discovered in the centre of the western city of Wroclaw.
The skeletons were discovered by a group of archaeologists from the Archaeological Museum in Wroclaw during excavations in the Staromiejski Park.
“While we were conducting routine tests at the waterworks we found a skull and then unearthed two skeletons,” said director of the museum Radoslaw Jarysz.
The skeletons were laid on their back, near the wall. The archaeologists presume that they belonged to German soldiers who died from shots in the back of their head. “It might have been an execution performed on Germans by Germans,” explains Jarysz.
The archaeologists believe that the remains come from the end of II WW. Now, they are going to preserve items found by the skeletons, such as buttons and a damaged signet ring with the initials "BB". The archeologists will also try to establish what unit the dead soldiers came from. The remains of two German soldiers will be buried at a German cemetery. (mg)
