Sunday's presidential vote is much calmer than previous plebiscites, it has been reported, with no major disturbances occuring throughout the country.
Not many serious incidents have been reported, although the Police have reported several cases of breaking the ‘election silence’, either by ripping down candidates’ posters or handing out political flyers.
“All is calm,” Grazyna Puchalska from Police HQ in Warsaw told the press, saying that “there are not many instances of the ‘election silence’ being broken.”
After announcing the latest frequency numbers from 13.00 CET Sunday afternoon, Deputy head of the National Electoral Commission, Jan Kacprzak told journalists that the aura surrounding the elections “is calmer than usual.”
During voting, Police noted one instance when a door handle was broken in a polling station which caused a few heated arguments between voters, with some members of the electoral committee turning out to be under the influence of alcohol.
Police officers are on duty in the vicinity of polling stations, and when they close the officers “will transport votes in convoys to other electoral commissions” for counting, Puchalska added. (jb)
