A UNICEF report finds 40 per cent of adults rarely discuss issues of personal safety with their children.

The data comes from a survey which is part of an educational program initiative by UNICEF under the motto “Play and be safe”.

Ewa Falkowska from UNICEF Poland said the figures indicate Polish kids are not well informed about safety precautions. For example, the program survey shows that 30 per cent of children are not seated in the backseat while travelling in a car and one in ten do not fasten their seat belts.

Protective helmets are not used by 78 per cent of youngsters during bike riding.

UNICEF representatives appeal for greater attention of grownups during the summer vacation season, especially during play at water recreation areas. The research conducted has shown 45 per cent of children bathing are not under parental or adult care. (ss)
