The National Election Committee has announced that the organisation of both rounds of the presidential ballot have cost 121.5 million zloty.

Precisely 30,618,066 Polish citizens are eligible to vote in the second round of presidential elections due for Sunday, July 4, which translates to a cost of around 4 zloty (0.96 euro) per voter for both rounds.

On Sunday, 25,511 polling stations across Poland and abroad will be open for the ballot, including 5 polling stations organised on Polish ships and oilrigs.

1,361 polling stations are to be opened in closed areas, such as hospitals and prisons (criminals serving a sentence in Poland keep the right to vote while incarcerated). 731 polling stations will be opened in hospitals, with 441 in social care centres and 189 in prisons.

At home and abroad

263 polling stations will be open for the ballot in countries across the globe. A greater amount of Poles living abroad has meant that the figure stands at 100 more than for the presidential elections in 2005.

The largest number of polling stations outside Poland’s borders are in the United Kingdom, which hosts 41 polling stations.

The number of polling stations in other countries include: 28 in the USA, 12 in Germany, 11 in Ireland, 9 in Spain and 8 in Afghanistan for Polish soldiers serving there. (jb)
