Bronislaw Komorowski
The National Election Commission announced Monday afternoon that with all votes counted nationwide, Bronisław Komorowski becomes Poland’s fourth elected president since the fall of communism with victory in the second round of election held Sunday.
The election commission says the center-right Komrowski (Civic Platform) won 53.01 percent of the vote is a conservative candidate Jaroslaw Kaczynski 's 46.99 percent.
Turnout was 55.31 percent, said the election commission during a press conference Monday afternoon.
Attendance at polling stations was highest in the seaside town of Rewal - as it was in the first round two weeks ago - where 90.03 percent voted.
The official announcement comes after exit polls predicted a win for the Civic Platform candidate when polling station closed yesterday evening.
The Civic Platform party now holds the two most important offices of state in Poland, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk leading the government and Bronislaw Komorowski in the Presidential Palace. (pg)
