• President-elect receives official victory certificate
  • 06.07.2010

Bronislaw Komorowski received a resolution from the National Electoral Commission at noon today, confirming his victory in Poland’s presidential elections.

The ceremony was held at Warsaw's Royal Castle and guests will include Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

His official swearing-in as head of state, however, will occur in around one month’s time after consideration by the Supreme Court of any protests about the conduct of the elections which saw his victory over Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

Voters, election committees or election campaign teams have three days to submit any written protest against the choice of president. The Supreme Court then has one month to make a ruling.

After that both houses of parliament - the Sejm and Senate - will be convened when the president-elect will make a solemn oath "to be faithful to the provisions of the Constitution, safeguarding the dignity of the nation and independence and security of the State.”

The oath to be taken by the president-elect will occur no later than August 11. (pg)
