Brodsky is one of 26 suspects wanted in connection with Dubai hotel murder

A Warsaw court decided today to extradite Uri Brodsky, suspected of being involved in the Dubai hotel assassination, to Germany, though a full written ruling will be given next week.

The man was detained at Warsaws international airport on June 4 after Germany issued a European Arrest Warrant for his detention and extradition. The Warsaw court set a condition on the extradition proceedings, whereby Brodsky can stand trial in Germany only for offences punishable under Polish law.

The Warsaw Court hearing, which was closed to the media, granted that Brodsky could be extradited to Germany on forgery charges, though German prosecutors are investigating the man for espionage.

Brodsky, accompanied to and from the court under heavy guard today, is suspected of aiding and abetting a crime and illegally acquiring a German passport in 2009 for one of the killers of the Hamas leader in Dubai.

The court in Warsaw initially met on Monday but delayed making a ruling on the case till today.

The court also extended his period of possible detention till September 11.

The Israeli is one of 26 suspects thought to be connected with the assassination of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in a Dubai hotel. All thought to be involved with the murder were travelling on European passports.

Brodsky has requested he not be sent to Germany where he will be charged, initially, of obtaining a German passport by illegal means.

Brodsky’s defence team are reportedly saying that he is not the man that German police are looking for, but a businessman with the same name as a suspected Mossad agent. (pg)
