After the presidential elections as well as the nomination of a new parliamentary speaker, the Blackjack commission reconvened today, Friday to hear its 80th witness in the affair which broke out last October.
The Blackjack commission heard testimonies from ex-sports minister Miroslaw Drzewiecki, one of the key figures in the affair and who resigned after it was made public.
The scandal caused a spate of resignations in the coalition government led by Donald Tusk, who himself had to stand for 13 hours before the commission earlier this year.
In the hearing, Drzewiecki gave testimony, saying that the finance ministry wanted to tax gambling to fund preparations for Euro 2012, and as such the finance minister should answer to the questions of the commission.
The ex-sports minister asked the commission to clarify a number of points that had not been raised up until now, including differing estimates as to the additional payments for the Euro 2012 tournament, with numbers given between 200 and 500 million zloty (49-122 million euro). (jb)
