Leader of the opposition Law and Justice party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, wants an apology before engaging in cooperation with the ruling Civic Platform.
“I will not cooperate with those who were unfair to my brother and other victims,” Kaczynski told Rzeczpospolita daily, referring to the April 10 air crash near Smolensk, western Russia, that killed President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and many top Polish officials. He believes that experts of both sides can and should talk. “But when we speak of some form of political cooperation, honestly, it is hard to conceive of without a clearly-worded apology”, the Law and Justice leader claims.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski said he had proposed a change of style by refraining from aggression and attacks in his presidential campaign and regretted that his idea was not accepted by the ruling Civic Platform.
Commenting on suggestions that his party used the Smolensk catastrophe for political aims, Kaczynski said that any democratic country must be determined to explain its circumstances and this has not been achieved over the past three months. No one was brought to account in the legal or political dimension.
“This shows that our democracy is a façade. In a normal country many people would lose their jobs”, Kaczynski said.
Referring to the overtures he made during the campaign towards the, the Law and Justice leader indicated that a coalition with the Democratic Left Alliance is out of the question. (kk/mmj)
