• Komorowski to be sworn in on August 6?
  • 15.07.2010

Parliamentary Speaker, Grzegorz Schetyna has announced that the swearing-in ceremony before the National Assembly of Bronislaw Komorowski, the president-elect, will most likely take place on August 6.

The National Assembly, which is made up of the Senate and Sejm lower parliamentary house, will convene before the beginning of the summer recess for the ceremony.

“August 6 is a working date for the time being, it may be earlier, but the 6th remains the deadline, as it also marks the end of the August session,” Grzegorz Schetyna told Polish Radio.

The Parliamentary Speaker also stipulated that August 6 is the only available date, as Poland’s Supreme Court also has to deem the recent presidential election valid.

Polish election law specifies that the Supreme Court has 30 days after the National Election Committee provides official ballot results to take any appeals into consideration and pass a final verdict on the vote’s validity.

Bronislaw Komorowski won the second round of presidential elections held on July 4, winning 53.01 percent of the ballot against rival Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s 46.99 percent. (jb)
