• Teenager hospitalised after machete attack
  • 15.07.2010

A 17-year old in Poland’s southern city of Krakow is in hospital after being probably attacked by hooligans wielding either swords or machetes.

The boy was taken to a local hospital after being found by two men in Krakow’s Nowa Huta district, and has serious wounds to the arms, legs, head and torso.

On Wednesday evening, police were alerted to the fact of the boy’s collapse on a suburban street in Mogila, a satellite of Nowa Huta. Local police does not discount that the teenager was dumped there earlier, however.

Doctors at the Zeromski hospital have analysed the wounds, saying that the teenager was probably attacked by either swords or machetes. The 17-year old is still lying in an unconscious state after a number of operations throughout Wednesday night.

The incident happened merely a few days after police in Krakow confiscated a number of machetes, baseball bats and samurai swords found on nine men, which have since been freed from custody.

The equipment was most likely used during hooligan fights that took place in Poland’s southern city on Sunday, in which five people were hospitalised. (jb)
