• Maverick politician to set up a new party?
  • 16.07.2010

Civic Platform MP and maverick politician, Janusz Palikot has said he will set up a new political grouping if he is expelled from the party.

The threat of losing Civic Platform membership comes after several controversial statements made by the politician.

Palikot has insinuated that the late president Lech Kaczynski has the blood of the Smolensk victims on his hands, after new revelations in the black-box transcripts reveal that the pilots may have been under pressure to land the presidential plane which crashed in Smolensk on April 10, killing all 96 on board.

Speaking to Polish Radio Friday morning, Januz Palikot said that he intends to be a member of Civic Platform as long as possible, but if the party authorities decide to remove him he will set up a new centre-left movement.

“I will set up a formation which is close to my views. I think someone should represent the almost ten million Poles who, like myself, belive that Lech Kaczynski is guilty,” Palikot said.

Janusz Palikot also pointed out that Lech Kaczynski should not have been laid to rest at the Wawel Cathedral, in Poland’s southern city of Krakow, until the investigation defines the causes of the Smolensk air crash. (ab/jb)
