The Polish army is shutting down military canteens, a move which is in line with the Defence Ministry’s plans to rid itself of state budget enterprises and other dependent facilities, currently numbering 71 in total.

Defence Minister Bogdan Klich told Polish Radio that “under the new act, canteens will be closed down. There is no reason why most of the services shouldn’t be provided by external entities,” hinting at the future outsourcing of a number of facilities.

“Catering services are important to military posts, yet they can be rendered by separate companies,” added Defence Minister Klich.

The reform will encompass other service entities under the ministry’s control, including military laundries or the army’s renovation and construction companies. (aba/jb)
