• Komorowski sworn in a week early?
  • 20.07.2010

It is possible that Bronislaw Komorowski will be sworn in as President of Poland on Thursday, July 29 and not August 6, as earlier planned.

The move was announced after Tuesday’s meeting of senior deputies in the Polish Parliament, but will depend on whether all complaints regarding the election are formally resolved. The Supreme Court must then declare the election valid.

“August 6 is a working date [...], it may be earlier, but the 6th remains the deadline, as it also marks the end of the August session,” Parliamentary Speaker Grzegorz Schetyna told Polish Radio last week.

Bronislaw Komorowski won the second round of presidential elections held on July 4, winning 53.01 percent of the ballot against rival Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s 46.99 percent. (ek/jb)
