The Warsaw Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation on the assault of a policeman during Europride over the weekend.

On Saturday, a few thousand people marched the streets of Warsaw demanding equal rights for sexual minorities. A group of Europride opponents who tried to disrupt the parade clashed with police and as a result one policeman was injured.

“A man cast a stone at a policeman and injured his leg,” says Monika Lewandowska from Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office. The offender was interrogated on Saturday and released home.

Warsaw Police are investigating another case in which a policeman was wounded during the parade. Besides, several Europride opponents were fined for throwing eggs at the participants of the parade. (mg/jb)
