• Smolensk victim autopsies to be sent to Poland?

The autopsy reports on the Smolensk plane crash victims are expected in Poland in August, said Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski.

“In August, the autopsy reports of the victims of the catastrophic plane crash in Smolensk are expected to be sent to Poland from Russia,” stated Kwiatkowski at a press conference Tuesday evening, following his visit to St. Petersburg to discuss the investigation and speed up the process of handing over documents from Russian to Polish investigators.

Kwiatkowski added that, however, his counterpart Aleksander Konovalov, is not the Prosecutor General and can only do so much to speed up the process. Konovalov promised, meanwhile, to take up the discussion with the Russian Prosecutor General, Yuri Chaika.

The autopsy reports were the main priority of Kwiatkowski's two-day visit to St. Petersburg as the issue has already been raised in Poland as to exhuming the remains of victims for clues as to the cause of the 10 April plane crash. On 14 July, widow of Law and Justice MP Przemyslaw Gosiewski filed a motion to have her late husband's body exhumed. (mmj)
