An autopsy report of late President Lech Kaczynski, translated from Russian to Polish, shows that the President was sober at the time of the Smolensk plane crash in western Russia on 10 April.
The autopsy, whose contents have not officially been made public, will be shared with the Kaczynski family today, however, the daily Rzeczpospolita has published unofficial information as to what the report shows.
“The from the examination and autopsy of the President has been translated from Russian. I cannot speak to what’s in it because it is classified,” stated Colonel Zbigniew Rzepa, spokesperson for the Military General Prosecutor.
It was Civic Platform MP Janusz Palikot who made a public statement suggesting that the late President could have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the plane crash, landing the maverick politician in hot water with both his political party and public opinion.
The autopsy was done in Russia by local specialists, in the presence of the former Polish Prosecutor General, Colonel Krzysztof Parulski, immediately after the late President’s body was identified by his twin brother, Jaroslaw, late in the evening on 10 April. It is the one of the only autopsy reports that was handed over to Polish investigators on the 15 April.
Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski made the return of the remaining victims’ autopsies to Poland a top priority of his two-day visit in St. Petersburg. (mmj)
