A National Public Health Institute report show that Poles are more often ill than citizens of older European Union member states.

The report shows that the average Pole lives 4-5 years less than a Frenchman, a German or a Dutch citizen and suggests that this is due to outdated health technologies and too little funding for the public health sector.

Additionally, the Polish government allocated 6.2 percent of the national GDP to health care services, while in France that figure is 11.1 percent, in German it is 10.6 percent and in Hungary, 8.3 percent.

The only EU countries that allocate less funds for health care at Cyprus, Lithuania, Romania and Estonia. (mmj)
