  • 23.07.2010

After a tropical heat wave, Poland is expecting torrential rains and violent thunderstorms this weekend.

Temperature in the country is going to drop from 35 to 21 degrees Celsius over the weekend as a result of a cold weather front which is moving eastwards across Europe.

Lower temperatures will be accompanied by heavy rains and thunderstorms. Strong wind and hail are also expected in some areas.

On Friday, the temperature will reach maximum 24 degrees Celsius in the west and north-west of the country, 26-30 degrees Celsius in the area between Western Pomerania and Upper Silesia, and 31-35 degrees Celsius in the eastern part of the country. At night the temperature will drop to even 13 degrees Celsius in mountain areas.

On Saturday and Sunday, the maximum temperature in mountain regions will reach 16-17 degrees Celsius, 27 degrees in the east and in the rest of the country 19-23 degrees Celsius.

For most of the weekend the sky will be cloudy with sunny intervals. Heavy rains and violent storms are also expected. The first ones have already hit the central city of Lodz, where several streets have been flooded. (mg/jb)
