• Supreme Court robbed!

Police are looking for a thief who stole 56 bronze letters in honour of the 1944 Warsaw Rising from the Supreme Court building in Warsaw.

The lettering, attached to eleven columns which face the Warsaw Rising Monument, formed the names of battalions which fought during the rising.

“It’s the first time in history that the Supreme Court building has been robbed,” says Tomasz Oleszczuk from the Warsaw police, adding that police officers are checking scrap metal yards where they think the thief might try to sell the stash.

“Unfortunately, it will be impossible to reconstruct the inscription before the 66th anniversary of the Warsaw Rising which falls on 1 August,” says Krzysztof Michalowski from the Supreme Court. (mg)
