E-courts are gaining in popularity in Poland since their introduction in January, says the Justice Ministry.

Over one million cases landed in courts before the launch of e-courts yearly - now e-courts are helping take some of the strain with 200,000 cases reported to the e-court and 180,000 already completed in the six months since coming into operation.

Internet judicial proceedings are fast winning supporters especially among the business community.

The Polish e-court is a branch of the regional Court in Lublin in the east, but deals with cases from across Poland. It allows for filing the case via the Internet and the verdict is received in the same form.

The Justice Ministry is planning to increase the budget of e-courts and employ more people to improve its proceedings . The six month of e-court operations have brought the Justice Ministry over 7 million zloty savings (1million 750,000 euro). (ab)
