President-elect Bronislaw Komorowski will be sworn in as head of state on August 6t during a special session of the National Assembly, it has been announced.
The head of the President’s Office Lech Czapla said that details of the ceremony are currently being arranged. “We plan a dignified welcome to the president and his wife,” he said.
Lech Czapla said that after the ceremony the president is expected to address the nation.
Komorowski beat Jaroslaw Kaczynski in the second round of elections on July 4.
According to the regulations, the ceremony, in front of the National Assembly consists of two parts - the obligatory official taking of the oath and the optional address to the nation.
The National Assembly comprises members of the Lower and Upper Houses of the Parliament. One of its main powers is to take the oath of the head of state. The assembly is also the only state body which can declare a President's permanent incapacity to perform his duties, or bring an indictment against him before the State Tribunal. (ab)
