Poland’s Attorney General Andrzej Seremet has asked Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski for financial help in order to be able to conduct investigations.
The call comes after the Finance Ministry has called for all departments to save money in an attempt to cut public spending.
Andrzej Seremet assessed that his office will need 44 million zloty (11 million euro) to effectively carry out his duties. Seremet thinks that the office will manage to save just 18 million zloty (4.5 million euro) this year, so has asked Finance Ministry for the remaining 26 million zloty (6.5 million euro).
The Finance Ministry has so far not responded to Seremet’s request yet.
Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski in turn supports Seremet’s request. “If the Prosecutor’s Office needs more money, its budget should be increased, otherwise it won’t be able to carry out investigations,” said Kwiatkowski.
The minister added, however, that this year the Prosecutor’s Office’s budget has already been increased by almost 100 million zloty (25 million euro) in comparison with the last year, which is a 6-percent rise. (mg)
