Colonel Jerzy Gut has been appointed the Commander of the Polish Special Forces unit GROM.

Colonel Jerzy Gut has replaced Colonel Dariusz Zawadka who resigned last Friday. Zawadka allegedly did not agree with the appointment of Colonel Piotr Patalong for the post of the Commander of the Special Forces, i.e., his superior.

Zawadka’s resignation was approved by Defence Minister Bogdan Klich. Gut was appointed Commander of GROM for the second time – he held the post between March and July 2008.

Former Commander of GROM General Roman Polko said that Colonel Jerzy Gut is the right person for the post. “He’s an excellent soldier who spent his life on the most difficult military missions. He’s also a great leader, respected by his subordinates, an experienced commander, well-trained and highly-skilled,” said Polko. (mg)
