A film showing a 3D view of Warsaw in 1935 will be released by the Newborn animation studio.
A digital reconstruction of the pre-war Warsaw from hundreds of archive photos and maps aims at showing the capital of Poland in its big time, when it was called “Paris of the North.” During the 1944 Warsaw Rising Warsaw was completely destroyed and after the war it had to rebuilt from scratch. Social realistic style adopted in the post-war architecture, however, had little to do with grand art nouveau which prevailed in 1930s Warsaw.
This is the second 3D reconstruction to be released this year. Earlier this month, a film showing a birds-eye, 3D view of the destruction of the Polish capital after 1944’s Warsaw Rising, City of Ruins, was released and can be watched at the Warsaw Rising Museum.
The latest film shows a day in pre-war Warsaw. The first part shows the city centre, featuring the main ul. Marszalkowsk thoroughfare, the second – the Ogród Saski (Saxon gardens) and the Old Town and the third, the area just north of the cnetre which would become the Jewish ghetto area.
Viewers will be able to see the first taxis, gas street lights, asphalt streets with cars and trams, shop windows and people dressed according to the 1930s fashion.
The production of the film started two years ago and the first screening of the first part of the film is scheduled for the autumn. (mg/pg)
