  • 12.08.2010

Minister without portfolio, Michal Boni has said at an emergency session of the Sejm lower parliamentary house that around 1.7 billion zloty (423 million euro) has been set aside for flood victims and reconstruction of communal infrastructure.

Out of the total sum, 521 million zloty is to be for reconstruction of communal infrastructure, such as sewers and water mains.

500 million zloty has been set aside as aid for flood victims, with each family receiving 6,000 or 20,000 zloty as a one-off payment, as well as 100,000 zloty for the rebuilding of destroyed homes.

340 million zloty is to go towards the reconstruction of dykes and flood barriers, a number of which burst during the floods in May and June, as well as the latest wave of flooding in south-west Poland which caused a dam to collapse.

200 million zloty is to be reimbursed to emergency services for rescue activities carried out during floods and landslides which affected 14 out of Poland's 16 regions.

Recently, the European Commission rubberstamped Polish plans to hand out aid, although monetary aid from the European Solidarity Fund is expected to be ratified by the European Parliament after the summer. (jb)
