Weather experts have issued a hot spell warning for the people of the central Mazowsze region, which includes Warsaw.
The maximum day time temperature in the region is expected to soar up to 34 Celsius between this Friday and Sunday.
The Warsaw city authorities advise residents to avoid staying in direct sunshine around noon and to wear protective clothing and hats to prevent overheating. People with circulatory system problems and the elderly should rather stay at home, especially between 10a.m. and 3 p.m., and drink at least 2 liters of liquids daily. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided.
The city authorities warn also that the hot spell will have a negative impact on road surfaces and will increase the risk of fire.
In July temperatures reached 37 degrees in Warsaw as warm air passed south to north, culminating the heat wave which sparked the outbreak of fires in Russia. (kk/pg)
