Two miners died last night in the Jas-Mos colliery in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Lower Silesia.

“The accident took place at 22.00 CET, 600 meters below ground,” said a spokesperson for the mining authority.

One of the miners was a 48 year-old man who had worked in the industry for 20 years. The other was 29 years old and has worked at the mine for four years. They died while moving heavy equipment.

In the first half of this year 12 miners had died in Poland with 23 seriously injured.

In 2002, 10 miners died in the Jas-Mos mine when an explosion ripped through shafts 700 metres below ground. (pg)
