The first milk dispensers enabling locals to try fresh, unpasteurised milk have been placed on streets in Tarnowskie Gory and Cieszyn on the Polish-Czech border.
The milk dispenser looks like a vending machine and sells 1 litre of milk for 3 zloty (76 euro cents).
Thanks to milk dispensers, which are quite popular in Italy, Austria or the Czech Republic but have been introduced to Poland only recently, farmers can sell milk direct to customers, cutting out the middlemen and city dwellers can buy fresh milk without leaving town.
Residents of Tarnowskie Gory normally buy fresh milk if they want it from the Kubackis’ farm, situated several dozen kilometers from the town, where 80 cows give 1,700 litres of milk a day.
“Many people asked about fresh milk so we opened a small shop on the farm. But it took too much time to take care of the animals and serve customers at the same time so we came up with this milk dispenser, which I saw on TV,” Bernadetta Kubacki, owner of the farm told the PAP news agency.
The Kubackis imported the milk dispenser from Italy for 70,000 zloty (17,600 euro). “We sell 120 litres of milk a day through the dispenser, which is not much but we hope to sell more in the future,” says Bernadetta Kubacki. (mg)
