Prime Minister Donald Tusk joined over 8,000 scouts and girl guides in Krakow, Tuesday, to celebrate 100 years of the Polish Scouting Association, which has its roots in the city.
At noon on Tuesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, himself a former scout and honorary patron of the centenary celebrations, opened the festivities after the traditional ‘hejnał’ bugle call was played by a scout from one of the towers of St. Mary’s Basilica.
“I sometimes think to myself; wouldn’t the world be a better and more beautiful place if we were all scouts,” said Donald Tusk, before saluting the scouts with the traditional “czuwaj!” scouting motto.
Later on Tuesday afternoon, the festivities were marked by a concert of the ‘Wartaki’ scouting song group from Kolo, central Poland.
‘Wartaki’ sing a popular hit, “Dwie Drogi” during their concert in Krakow, Tuesday.
A number of Polish scouts from abroad have also arrived in Poland’s southern city for the anniversary celebrations. Among them is a contingent of 10 Canadian Polish scouts, as well groups from the Czech Republic, Belarus, Lithuania, and the Ukraine. (jb)
