Former Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki and former communist party member Tomasz Nalecz are just two of President Bronislaw Komorowski’s eclectic new team of advisors.

 

Tadeusz Mazowiecki, one of the leaders of the Solidarity movement and the first non-communist prime minister in Central and Eastern Europe post WW II is to become Komorowski’s strategic advisor, while Tomasz Nalecz, a former vice-speaker of the Parliament, one-time candidate for president and a member of Poland’s communist party during the 1970s and 80s, will advise Komorowksi on historical issues.

 

Mazowiecki and Nalecz are the only names which have been confirmed as part of a new team of advisors in the Presidential Palace but several public figures are thought to have received an offer to join up.

 

Prof. Roman Kuzniar, a political scientist from the University of Warsaw and Defence Minister’s advisor with broad knowledge about international relations, is said to be a candidate for presidential advisor on foreign politics. Prof. Kuzniar has not denied receiving received an offer.

 

Another name in the frame is Prof. Michal Kleiber, expert on computer science and mechanics, who is frequently mentioned by Polish media as a possible candidate for an advisor on science.

 

And Olympic goal medalist Robert Korzeniowski, who supported Komorowski during his presidential campaign thus summer has admited that he is interested in becoming a presidential advisor on sporting issues

 

President Bronislaw Komorowski will choose his advisors by mid September. (mg)
