Just 15 percent of Polish workers are members of trade unions and that figure is set to fall still further.
In the early 1990s, just after the Solidarity trade union had led Poland into a democratic future 30 percent were member of a union. In the year 2000 that figure had slumped to 20 percent.
Today, finds a poll by the CBOS institute, the percentage of the workforce that is unionised comprises of just over one-in-seven. The 2.5 million workers who are a member of the union either belong to the OPZZ - which has most members in state enterprises, or NSZZ Solidarnosc.
Solidarity celebrated its 30 anniversary this week after striking workers signed the August Agreements with the communist authorities in 1980. (pg)
