• Another flood wave approaches Warsaw
  • 07.09.2010

After heavy rains on Sunday and Monday, the peak of a flood wave will pass through Warsaw along the Vistula River at around 11.00 CET this morning.

According to the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, the level of the river could reach up to 670 inches, which is almost a meter less than during the May floods, which devastated many areas in southern and central Poland.

The flood wave is 20 centimetres more than is considered safe, however, and emergency services are in a state of readiness.

Areas in the south of the country are stabilising, though emergency services were called out in 170 separate incidents on Monday. (pg)
