The ruling Civic Platform party wants President Bronislaw Komorowski to withdraw several bills sent to the Constitutional Tribunal by the late president Lech Kaczynski.
“I hope that next week we will talk about this with the head of the Chancellery of the President,” said Rafal Grupinski, head of Civic Platform’s parliamentary party.
Grupinski is a member of the governmental group planning a “legislative offensive” this autumn. By the end of September PM Donald Tusk’s cabinet is planning to put three draft bills before Parliament - on public finance, social issues and health care.
The group, along with Jacek Michalowski, head of the Chancellery of the President, will also analyze several bills, which former president Lech Kaczynski forwarded to the Constitutional Tribunal to see if the draft laws were in accordance with the Constitution. The bills concern the changes in electoral law, financial institutions, construction law, the promotion of judges and traffic law.
“President Komorowski has the right to withdraw bills from the Constitutional Tribunal and sign them, which means that they will be implemented,” Jerzy Stepien, former head of the Constitutional Tribunal told Gazeta Wyborcza.
If that happens, Komorowski will set a precedent as so far no president withdrew his predecessor’s bills from the Constitutional Tribunal in Poland. (mg)
