• Maverick politician alienates himself from party?
  • 30.09.2010

Head of the Civic Platform parliamentary club, Tomasz Tomczykiewicz believes that even though maverick politician Janusz Palikot is still formally a member of the party, he has alienated himself from its ranks.

Speaking to Polish Radio Thursday morning, Tomczykiewicz said that “mentally, Palikot is outside Civic Platform.”

The head of the parliamentary club claims that any party that Janusz Palikot would set up would ultimately fail, stating that “Palikot always wanted to be in control of something and someone. Since that did not happen in the Civic Platform, he has decided to create his own movement.”

“Palikot has a form of political ADHD,” Tomczykiewicz summed up, adding that the maverick politician’s decision to set up his own movement or party will shift him to the political margin.

According to Tomczykiewicz, Janusz Palikot does not have any chance to cut into the electorate of the Democratic Left Alliance, something which the latter proclaimed in stating recently that his new liberal left party would “crush” the leftist alliance.

Tomczykiewicz’s comments come after Sunday’s poll for Polish Radio that almost a third of Poles wanted Palikot to be sacked from Civic Platform before the party’s decision on whether to exclude him from party ranks after outlandish comments he made in the wake of the Smolensk catastrophe in April.
