The 10th Papal Day is being held in Poland under the motto “John Paul II – The Courage of Sanctity”.
Organised by the New Millennium Foundation, it is traditionally observed on the Sunday preceding the 16 October anniversary of the start of the late Holy Father’s pontificate.
Various events accompanying Papal Day usually last throughout the whole upcoming week. This year, a number of scientific seminars and discussions devoted to the teachings of John Paul II have been organised in major Polish cities and academic centres. There are also special concerts, charity campaigns and even sports events held to mark the anniversary.
The celebrations were inaugurated, Sunday, at the Holy Cross church in Warsaw with Mass said by the Papal Nuncio to Poland, archbishop Celstino Migliore. (ss/jb)
