At a ceremony bestowing Lech Walesa with honorary citizenship of the south-western city of Opole, renowned film director Andrzej Wajda, present at the event, announced he has plans to make a film about the legendary Solidarity leader.

The Oscar-winning Polish director said that Lech Walesa has a permanent place in Poland’s history.

“All those interested in what those times were like are invited to wait for my next film, which will be a story of Lech Walesa and his role in overturning the communist rule in this country,” Wajda said during the ceremony.

The title was granted several months ago, but the tight schedule of Lech Walesa did not allow him to visit the city.

“It was a time for you to rethink your decision”, Walesa joked while receiving the title. The Nobel peace prize laureate said he was deeply moved by the honour. (ab/jb)
