A new poll reveals that 58 percent of Poles are against the construction of a memorial to late President Lech Kaczynski in Poland’s capital.
34 percent of respondents said that they would like to see a memorial to Kaczynski in Warsaw, states the survey by pollsters CBOS. Only 8 percent of Poles did not have an opinion on the matter.
The CBOS pollsters also asked respondents about political affiliation in the survey. 68 percent of respondents who regularly vote for Law and Justice, with which Lech Kaczynski was affiliated, stated that there should be a memorial to the late president in Warsaw.
40 percent of supporters of junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasants’ Party, were in favour of the memorial, while only 19 percent of supporters of both Civic Platform and the Democratic Left Alliance were in favour of the memorial, with 78 and 79 percent of supporters against the idea respectively.
The poll was conducted between 1-8 September among 1041 adult Poles. (jb)
