Eugeniusz Wrobel - murdered; photo - PAP UPDATE - Grzegorz W., the 30 year-old son of former deputy transport minister Eugeniusz Wrobel, has confessed to murdering his father.
Prosecutor Jacek Slawik said Wrobel, a minister in the Law and Justice government (2005 - 07) was murdered at his home in southern Poland and the body was disposed of in a nearby lake. Police divers are still trying to retrieve the body.
The politician’s family became alarmed when Wrobel disappeared from his house in Rybnik, in the Silesian province, on Friday, taking no documents or mobile phone with him. The last person reportedly to see him alive was his son, who has now confessed to killing him, says the prosecutor.
Police had previously been working under the assumption that the politician had been kidnapped.
Unofficial sources have told the TVP public broadcaster that father and son had been in conflict for some time over finances and other matters.
Wrobel was born in 1951 and was an MP in the Katowice constituency. Between November 2005 and May 2006 he served as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Transport and Construction and in 2007 as Under Secretary of State at the ministry.
