A campaign aimed at finding more foster homes for kids in Poland, Warmer in the Family, has been launched in Warsaw.

The campaign is aimed at encouraging families willing to look after children unable to live with their biological parents, and often left with no chances for adoption.

The Port Foster-Care Support Center and Warsaw city hall, the organizers of the initiative, recruited families at an official meeting held at Warsaw’s Ethnographic Museum on Monday. The event was attended by existing foster families and celebrities backing the idea, including actress Joanna Brodzik and journalist Rafał Bryndal.

The initiative is being supported by First Lady Anna Komorowska.

Being a foster family can be very rewarding, says head of Port Sylwester Soćko. “The society should be made aware that these kids need be given a chance to grow in normal conditions and have a good start in life, and that we need to help them to reach that end.”

An estimated 750 children are currently in orphanages in Warsaw, and about 20,000 in the entire country. (ab)
