With a long weekend culminating with All Saints’ Day fast approaching, police up and down Poland have started their annual high profile road safety campaign, with strict controls on the country’s roads to last until 2 November.
Over 10,000 policemen will be patrolling roads, as well as areas surrounding cemeteries and public transport hubs such as train stations, as millions of Poles travel to visit families and pay respects to deceased relatives by visiting their graves.
In 2009, around 30 people died on Polish roads during the All Saints’ holiday, with police catching almost 1,000 drunk drivers.
